ABBALLATI ABBALLATI SONG BY AMINE J. HACHEM

  • August 08, 2018

American-Lebanese Tenor Unites Mediterraneans in Song.

The American-Lebanese tenor, Amine J. Hachem, brings Mediterranean multiculturalism to life with a new twist on an old Italian folk song; “Abballati, Abballati” which means “Dance, Dance!” in the Sicilian dialect. So, listen, smile, sing—-and abballati with us!

Tenor Amine J. Hachem has been blessed with the gift of music. His birthplace is in the heart of the Mediterranean: Lebanon. He realizes that what most people from outside of our country see is their division. But he believes that they also have a rich Mediterranean multicultural tradition that needs to be seen, shared and enjoyed. And so, with his family, they embarked on a labor of love to embrace everyone in their community.

What you will see in this video is what he can give back to the world.

This video is shot in a documentary style, with no actors. Tenor Amine J. Hachem appears alongside his family, as well as people Hachem knows and don’t know that they’ve encountered in their travels: people who live and breathe the Mediterranean life, and people who are visiting from around the world. “What you will say after seeing this video is that we in Lebanon are one community.” Amine J. Hachem says.

The video was directed by his brother Andrew J. Hachem, and you can get a glimpse of his father John on the accordion.

AMINE J. HACHEM BACK AT BROADWAY’S 54 BELOW THIS COMING DECEMBER

  • July 07, 2018

After his successful debut at Carnegie Hall, “One of the best holiday concerts in NYC” (Metro New York), Amine Hachem returns to 54 Below having previously sold out the room.

Hachem pushes the boundaries of opera music by integrating it with unconventional global sounds from around the world. His performance will take you on a journey from the shores of the Mediterranean to the southern tip of the Americas. Audiences can expect an eclectic program which includes operatic arias, international popular hits, and some Christmas favorites interpreted though his Franco-Arabic perspective, blending elements from Latin, jazz, American pop, European classical, Russian folk, and traditional Arabic music.
Amine has previously performed leading roles in operas and musicals such as La Traviata, Tosca, Carmen, La Bohème, Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, Phantom of the Opera, and Evita and has performed for numerous heads of state, such as the President of Lebanon and the King of Jordan. In the US, he has performed at the United Nations Concert Hall, the MGM Grand Casino, the Bellagio Las Vegas, St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, The Henry Ford Museum, Andrew W. Mellon Hall Auditorium, and appeared on the fabulous runways of New York Fashion Week as a guest performer.

Featuring conductor and pianist Brian Holman, a “superb partner artist” (Hudson-Catskill) hailed for his “magic baton” (Brooklyn Eagle), leading a dynamic seven-piece band. Equally at home in popular music, Brian has appeared with operatic greats in the United States, Italy and South Africa, and has enjoyed a lengthy collaboration with Amine worldwide.

“Amine offers a unique, amazing, musical buffet of many different flavors all integrated into one show.” SiriusXM Radio

For the past few weeks, I’ve been immersed in rehe For the past few weeks, I’ve been immersed in rehearsals for the world premiere opera Gilgamesh at the Cerritos Performing Arts Center in California on March 28 and 29, where I have the privilege of singing the tenor role of Apsu, god of water and creator of life.

The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest surviving literary epic in human history, written more than four thousand years ago. At its heart lies a story of friendship, loss, and the human search for meaning.

In times like these, when the world feels heavy, it is humbling to step into a work that reminds us how long humanity has wrestled with these same questions.

Grateful to be part of bringing this ancient story to the stage and to keep making music as a quiet reminder that creation is our answer to destruction.

Gilgamesh is commissioned by the Assyrian Arts Institute, with music by Derrick Skye, a libretto by Diana Farrell, and dramaturgy by Dr. Eve Sada, brought to life by an extraordinary international team.
